That very same year she got an entry-level job at the restaurant An American Place for one year. But Guarnaschelli's experience in the kitchen began earlier while watching her mother cook a range of dishes at home, while she edited cookbooks. She began her professional career under Larry Forgione before working in many restaurants, like Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot. Her final position was as executive cook at Butter. Guarnaschelli was a contestant in 2007's Farmers Market Battle, a segment of Food Network's Iron Chef America, where she had to face Cat Cora. In the years since, she's participated in the program as an guest judge and competed at The Next Iron Chef Season Four in 2011 where she was third. The contest ended in defeat on the final episode of Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast. She was named sous-chef to Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian following the fourth series on The Next Iron Chef. In 2008 she became host of the Food Network's The Cooking Loft with Alex Guarnaschelli who teaches only a handful of students in the art of teaching them transform classic recipes.
